My Approach: Building With the Ground, Not Against It

In my journey as a structural designer, I've cultivated a grounded and resilient approach that revolves around flexibility, connection, and respect for local wisdom. I believe in building with nature — not against it — with a focus on creating structures that bend, breathe, and survive.

Vision and Innovation

My vision is to redefine earthquake-resilient construction by blending Nepal's traditional vernacular architecture with modern bamboo technology. I am committed to proving that safety and sustainability can coexist — using materials that grow back in years, not decades, while meeting modern engineering standards.

Identifying Unique Challenges

Before designing any structure, I study the land, the soil, and the seismic history. I also look at what grows locally — especially bamboo. This process allows me to tailor solutions that respect both the environment and the people who will live inside the structure, ensuring that every design is context-aware and culturally rooted.

Resolving Complex Problems

Structural design for me is not just about preventing collapse — it's about understanding how a building moves during an earthquake. I relish the challenge of creating load paths that are continuous, joints that are flexible, and materials that absorb energy rather than resist it. Whether it's a timber band from a 200-year-old Newari house or an engineered bamboo truss, the solution is always the same: bend, don't break.

User-Centric Design — The Occupant First

The cornerstone of my approach is the safety and well-being of the people inside the building. I prioritize designs that protect lives during earthquakes while keeping homes comfortable, breathable, and affordable. A safe building means nothing if people can't live in it daily — so I design for both the 30-second earthquake and the 30-year life of the home.

Meeting User Needs — From Soil to Roof

I am dedicated to addressing the diverse needs of homeowners, communities, and builders. By blending vernacular techniques (like mud mortar and timber bands) with new bamboo technology (like prefabricated panels and cement-bamboo frames), I create structures that are earthquake-resistant, eco-friendly, culturally appropriate, and repairable after a quake. Bamboo grows in 13 varieties across Nepal — I use what's already there.

Every project I take on is a testament to my grounded, flexible, and innovative approach. My designs reflect my vision for seismic resilience and my commitment to delivering safety that surpasses expectations.
